Coconut Project
Song Saa's Coconut Problem
Cambodians generally use hot press methods to extract coconut oil, which isn't very efficient and easy to use. Being committed to economic and environmental sustainability, we're designing and building a cold-pressed coconut press, which doesn't produce fume emissions. Respective residents of the island could benefit greatly both socially and economically from it.
Our Solution
Song Saa’s coconut problem is that the community is using the hot-pressed method to extract oil from coconuts rather than the cold pressed method. As a result, inhalation of fumes and smoke can cause severe illness within the Koh Rong Archipelago. Our solution to this problem is to plan and build a cold-pressed coconut press. We believe that, by planning and constructing cold-pressed coconut presses, it could greatly reduce the risk of lung disease and many other sicknesses.
Coconut Press
We assisted Song Saa in developing and constructing a coconut press that uses cold-press processes, and it was done through realistic design illustrations and multiple prototypes.
